Andréa Price, a Tennessee native, has been a Houston area resident for most of her lifetime. In addition to painting, she is an illustrator, photographer, actor and a model.  She is the epitome of a visual artist that utilizes all of her talents to create something intriguing.

After a waking up in the hospital on September 9, 2011 following a near death experience, Price was inspired to share her artistic gift with the world.   Dré Price Art was founded that day.  Within a couple of days, she was contacted to do her first exhibition in Houston, TX.  Following that event, she exhibited five pieces at the Museum of Cultural Arts Houston from March through April of 2012.  Since then, Price has done many events.

She is the lead actress from Epic records recording artist Watch the Duck short film Anatidaephobia.  The videos have been featured on BET’s 106^th and Park and MTV Jams.  Also, Price portrays character “Marty” from the hit web series Girl Play.  She is also in production of a new reality show.  In addition, Price has modeled for many boutiques and designers in Houston, New Orleans and Atlanta to name a few. 

Through social networking, Price has gained a following.  She has created custom pieces for actress Lashontae Heckard, NFL player Joseph Addai, reality star Ariane Davis and many others.

Price specializes in painting vivid portraits on a variety of surfaces; however, wood is currently her favorite choice. She can create any type of mural and/or painting her clients may request.  Her raw, unique style of color blending and visually shocking concepts have set her apart from other artists. “I aim to create work that makes people think, or look twice. If the piece has caused any type of emotion to arise in the viewer, then I consider it a job well done.”

ARTIST STATEMENT:

My artwork is a reflection of the vivid thoughts that flood my mind.  Without this form of expression, I would be tortured with images dying to be unleashed into reality.  I employ taboo desires such as women, beauty, money, drugs, etc. to invite the viewer into a place of speculation.  The subject matter of each body of work determines the materials and the color formation of the work.  Each portrait is similar to the birth or rebirth of the individual placed on the canvas.  I aspire to create images that are literal interpretations of the individual’s fantasy perception of themselves and/or a visual representation of their alter ego.  There are multiple meanings for each piece that I encourage the viewer to freely interpret.  Life is an endless stream of inspiration. That concept is completely advantageous to me because it allows for new research in new interest areas that arise when the moment of inspiration hits, thus leading to the next body of work.
